Why Church Still Matters
"I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’" - Psalm 122:1
There is no shortage of reasons people give for not going to church. Some say they are too busy, while others claim they can worship God on their own. Some have been hurt by people in the church, and others feel disillusioned by religion altogether. Whatever the reason, many have decided that church is optional or even unnecessary.
But when you really think about it, these same excuses do not hold up in other areas of life. No one stops washing their hands because they were forced to do it as a child. No one refuses to use soap because there are too many brands to choose from. No one decides to wash only on Christmas and Easter because regular washing seems excessive.
Yet, when it comes to church, people act like they are doing God a favor by showing up. The truth is that church was never about checking off a religious box. It is about being in the presence of God with His people, growing in faith, and strengthening one another. It is about being reminded of what truly matters when life gets overwhelming.
Yes, the church is full of imperfect people. Yes, some have misrepresented Christ. But the failures of people do not change the power of God. The enemy wants you to believe that church does not matter. He wants you to think you are better off alone. But isolation weakens your faith, while being surrounded by other believers strengthens it.
You may have been hurt. You may feel like church is not worth the effort. But do not let excuses keep you from what God has designed for you. There is something powerful about gathering in His house. When you come with an open heart, God meets you there. And when He does, you will find that what you thought was optional is actually essential.
