Is It Well With Your Soul?
“Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” - 1 Peter 5:7
Is it well with your soul? That’s the question you must ask yourself, especially when life feels overwhelming. Horatio Spafford wrote the hymn It Is Well With My Soul after experiencing the devastating loss of his wealth and family in the same year. Despite all the tragedy, he could still say, "It is well with my soul." How? Because he had peace that surpassed all understanding. The peace he spoke of was not a result of his circumstances but a deep assurance that no matter what, God was with him.
Maybe you are facing your own barrage of struggles: losses, health crises, financial troubles, or broken relationships. Maybe life feels out of control, and you’re uncertain if peace is even possible. In the middle of your storm, you can ask, “Is it well with my soul?” I’m not just talking about whether everything in your life is going well, but whether your soul finds rest in God, even when life is turbulent.
In 1 Peter 5:7, we are reminded to “cast all of your cares upon Him, because He cares for you.” God invites you to bring all your worries, anxieties, and fears to Him. You are not meant to carry them alone. He is your healer. The Bible refers to God as the Lord your healer. He does not only heal physical ailments but also the brokenness in your heart and soul.
However, we sometimes make the mistake of confusing physical health with complete healing. Healing goes beyond what we see. It touches the deeper parts of our lives, transforming our hearts to trust God, even when we face life’s challenges.
In the midst of whatever you are facing, ask yourself, “Is it well with my soul?” When you cast your cares on God, trust that He is working in your life, bringing peace, healing, and comfort. No matter how bad things get, you can rest assured that God is with you, and with Him, it can be well with your soul.
