Repair What is Broken
"And I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten." - Joel 2:25
Hezekiah’s story teaches us that healing from the past isn’t just about letting go, it’s about taking action to repair what’s broken. When Hezekiah became king, he didn’t sit back and accept the damage his father, Ahaz, had done to the temple, the nation’s defenses, and the people’s faith. He rolled up his sleeves and got to work.
The temple had been shut down, its structure damaged, and its sacred furniture ruined. The nation’s walls were weakened, leaving them vulnerable to their enemies. Hezekiah could have looked at the brokenness and decided it was too far gone. But instead, he chose to repair what was damaged. He rebuilt the temple, fixed the broken furniture, reinforced the city’s walls, and even constructed a hidden water tunnel to ensure the people’s safety.
What about you? Are there areas of brokenness in your life that need repair? Maybe it’s a relationship that’s been damaged by past mistakes, a dream you’ve given up on, or a part of yourself that’s been neglected. It’s easy to look at what’s broken and feel overwhelmed. But Hezekiah shows us that brokenness doesn’t have to define your future. You can make a comeback by repairing what needs to be fixed.
Restoration requires faith, courage, and action. You may need to rebuild trust where it’s been broken, take steps to strengthen areas of your life that feel weak, or invite God into places of hurt so He can begin the work of healing. The good news is you don’t have to do it alone. God is the ultimate Restorer. Like the potter in Jeremiah’s vision, He takes what’s broken and makes it whole again.
Whatever is damaged in your life, don’t give up on it. Your past doesn’t have to dictate your future, and your brokenness doesn’t have to hold you back. Trust God to help you repair and restore. Take the first step today, knowing that He is able to make all things new.
