We’ve Only Just Begun
"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." – Philippians 1:6
Milestones have a way of making you stop and reflect. They give you a moment to look back at where you’ve been, recognize what God has done, and then ask a powerful question: What’s next? That’s the heart behind today’s devotion.
In a sermon marking 21 years of ministry between a pastor and his church, a song from the late 1980s was used as a picture of what lasting love and commitment can look like. The song, “We’ve Only Just Begun,” speaks of a couple who, despite all they’ve already experienced, believe the best is still ahead. The lyrics repeat that the romance isn’t over and that there’s still a lot of love to give. And while that song was originally about romantic love, the message fits perfectly into the life of faith and spiritual journey we are all on.
Because here’s the truth, you may have already walked with God for years, seen miracles, overcome trials, and witnessed His hand in countless ways. But that does not mean He is finished with you. In fact, if you are still breathing, then the purpose God placed in you is still unfolding. The past may be full of blessings and growth, but the future still holds more.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God finishes what He starts. Whether you are in your first steps of faith or reflecting on decades of walking with Him, the work He began in you is still in motion. You are not done growing. You are not done serving. You are not done becoming who He created you to be.
As you look at what has already been built in your life: Your faith, your relationships, your ministry, your testimony. Celebrate it, yes. But don’t settle there. Let God reignite your passion, your purpose, and your vision. He’s not done. You’ve only just begun. And what He has ahead will require your full trust, your full surrender, and your full heart.
