Stop Talking So Loud
"Whoever has ears, let them hear.” - Matthew 11:15
Jesus understood the struggle of those who needed to hear His voice but couldn’t because His followers were talking too loud. The “other sheep” (that we referenced a few days ago) who need to hear His voice are struggling because we, as Christians, often dominate the conversation and drown out the voices of those who are searching for truth.
Sometimes, we need to pause, listen, and allow others the space to speak. But in today’s world, especially within the Christian community, there are voices that seem to overshadow everything else. From political debates to nationalistic rhetoric, many are more focused on being heard than on listening to others. Jesus knew this would be a challenge, especially for His followers, and He cautioned against allowing our own voices to become barriers for those who are searching for the truth.
As followers of Christ, we are called to listen to others, to those who may be different from us, and especially to those who are seeking Jesus. When we get too loud, when we dominate the conversation, we create an environment where others can’t hear His voice. We must remember that God’s love is for everyone, and His message is for all people, regardless of background or identity.
Today, take a moment to listen. Be intentional about creating space for others, whether they are in your church, your community, or even those you disagree with. Stop talking so loud and start listening. The world needs to hear the voice of Jesus, and sometimes, the best way to share that voice is by allowing others the room to speak and to listen to their hearts.
