Marked by Love
"We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple." - Psalm 48:9
In a world filled with division, fear, and hatred, it is easy to forget the one thing that sets you apart as a follower of Christ: Love. The psalmist lived in a time of war, oppression, and uncertainty, yet he made a choice. Instead of focusing on the fear around him, he meditated on God’s steadfast love. He understood that before you can navigate the challenges of life, before you can love others well, and before you can even love yourself the right way, you have to start by reflecting on the love of God.
That kind of love is different from anything else you will find. People change. Their opinions shift. Their love can be conditional. One day, you are appreciated; the next day, you are overlooked. But God’s love does not waver. He does not love you because of what you bring to the table. His love is consistent, sacrificial, and unchanging. When you take time to truly understand that, it changes everything.
Paul put it this way. Christ’s love compels us. It moves you, reshapes you, and redefines who you are. When you truly grasp His love, it becomes your identity. Just like a designer’s logo marks their work, love is the mark that identifies you as God’s own. Without love, the world cannot recognize who you are.
Karl Barth, one of the greatest theologians of the twentieth century, was once asked about the most profound theological truth he had ever discovered. His response was simple. “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” With all his knowledge and study, he came back to the foundation.
If you are feeling lost, overwhelmed, or uncertain, start here. Meditate on God’s love. Remind yourself daily that His love for you is not based on your performance or perfection. It is steadfast. When you truly grasp that, it will transform how you see yourself, how you treat others, and how you walk through life.
