In Possession of a Personal Promise
“It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.” - Luke 2:26
Simeon’s story in Scripture is powerful not only because of what he experienced but because of what he held onto. While the Jewish people as a whole were waiting for the Messiah, Simeon had something personal: a unique promise from God. It wasn’t just the general hope that the Messiah would come and deliver Israel.
Simeon had received a revelation, a specific, personal promise that he would not die until he had seen the Messiah with his own eyes. This was a promise tailor-made for Simeon, something God spoke into his life, directly addressing his faith and longing.
God has a way of giving us promises that are deeply personal. Just as Simeon received a revelation meant for him alone, God also desires to speak directly into your life. When you hold onto a personal promise from God, it changes everything. It shifts your perspective and fills you with faith, knowing that God is actively involved in your situation. A promise from God is not a vague hope. It is a specific, divinely tailored word that aligns with your circumstances, your struggles, and your future.
When was the last time you received a personal promise from God? Not just the general assurances we hear in Scripture, but a direct word from God that speaks to your family, your health, your career, or your calling? God’s promises give us purpose and direction, like Simeon’s promise did for him. Simeon didn’t just wait passively for something to happen. He actively lived with the expectation that God would fulfill His word.
When you are in possession of a personal promise, you can confidently move forward, knowing that God will do what He said He would. Simeon positioned himself to receive the promise by staying faithful and trusting in God’s word. What about you? Are you standing firm on the promises God has spoken over your life? When you hold onto that promise, no matter what challenges you face, it gives you the strength to keep going, knowing that God’s word is true and His timing is perfect.
