We Do Not Have a Monopoly on God
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16
Too many times, Christians can fall into the trap of thinking that they have exclusive rights to God’s love, truth, and blessings. It’s easy to think that God belongs only to those who look like us, believe like us, or live like us. We may even start to believe we are somehow God’s favorites, that His peace, His protection, and His direction are reserved for us alone. But Jesus made it clear that God’s plan is much bigger than that.
Jesus told us He has “other sheep” who are part of His plan. He wasn’t just talking about people who are like us. His invitation to salvation is wide open, and it’s meant for everyone. He’s not just inviting the people who fit our specific criteria. There are people from every corner of the world, from every background and walk of life, who are part of His flock. The idea that God loves only a select few and that some are favored over others is simply not true. Jesus’ invitation is for all.
So often, we let our differences divide us. We use faith to exclude people, to put ourselves above others, and even to justify harmful actions. But Jesus came to show us that God’s love isn’t meant to divide. His love is meant to unite. Whether we like it or not, His table is open to those we may be inclined to exclude. The “whoever” in John 3:16 means exactly that, everyone. It doesn’t matter your color, your background, your status, or your beliefs. God’s love is for all.
What would it look like if we truly embraced this truth? What if we stopped thinking of our faith as something that sets us apart from others and started seeing it as something that calls us to include others, especially those we might be tempted to leave out? Jesus didn’t give us a monopoly on His love. He invites all of His children to the table, and it’s our job to welcome them.
Are you ready to lay aside your own biases and open your heart to those who may seem different from you? It’s time to use our voices to lift others up, not tear them down. God’s love isn’t ours to hoard. It’s meant to be shared.
