A Solid Foundation
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock." - Matthew 7:24
You can have the perfect house, the one you always dreamed of, but if it’s in the wrong location, it won’t be long before you regret your decision. That’s exactly what happened to Kate, a historian who found a beautiful antique home at a bargain price. It seemed like the perfect place, until she discovered why it was so cheap. Just feet from her front door, an active railroad track rattled her house every morning and evening, shaking the walls, knocking down pictures, and turning her dream home into a daily frustration. She learned the hard way that location isn’t just a detail, it’s everything.
Jesus used the same principle to teach about the foundation of your faith. He told a parable about two builders; one wise, one foolish. The foolish builder thought he had a great setup, placing his house on the sand, but when the storms came, it collapsed. The wise builder, on the other hand, built his house on solid rock, and no storm could take it down. The difference wasn’t in the structure but in the foundation.
Your life is no different. You can build your life on talent, success, or wealth, but if the foundation isn’t strong, it won’t hold up when things get tough. You might be chasing a dream, putting everything into a career, a relationship, or a goal, but if it’s not built on Christ, it will eventually crumble under pressure. When your faith is rooted in Jesus, you have a foundation that can withstand anything: disappointments, struggles, failures, and storms.
The good news is that you’re not stuck where you are. Unlike a house, your foundation can be changed. You can shift your focus and rebuild on solid ground. If you’ve been placing your security in things that won’t last, it’s not too late to make a change. When you put your trust in Jesus, you aren’t limited by circumstances, setbacks, or storms. Your foundation will be firm, and no matter what comes your way, you will stand strong.
