That’s the Point
"And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd." - John 10:16
When you read John 10, Jesus knew that some of His audience might be hearing His words and thinking that salvation was just for them. He had already told them that He is the Gate and the Good Shepherd, but He wasn’t just talking to them. Jesus was careful to remind them that His plan of salvation wasn’t limited to a specific group. He said, “I have other sheep that are not of this fold,” making it clear that His message was for all people, not just the Israelites.
This wasn’t just an important reminder for them then, it’s an important truth for us today. We often fall into the trap of thinking that God's love and salvation are somehow exclusive to us. It’s easy to think that the invitation is just for people who look like us, think like us, or live where we do. But Jesus was showing us that His love is much bigger than that. When the Bible says that God loved the world, it means the entire world, not just a small group. Jesus came to offer salvation to everyone, no matter their background or nationality.
God’s covenant with Abraham wasn’t just for his descendants but was meant to reach all the nations of the earth. Jesus’ words show us that God's plan is global. It’s a reminder that we don’t have a monopoly on God’s love or salvation. His invitation is wide open, and we are called to share that invitation with others, regardless of who they are or where they come from.
Think about the people around you today. Are you viewing them as part of God’s plan? Are you seeing them through the lens of God’s love as people He wants to draw near to Himself? Don’t limit God’s love to just your circle. He’s got other sheep out there, and He’s calling them just like He called you.
