Who Knows Best?
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord." - Jeremiah 17:7
Just because someone loves you doesn’t mean they know what’s best for you. That’s a tough truth to face, especially when the people around you care deeply for you and want the best for your life. Their intentions may be good, their advice may sound reasonable, and their support may feel reassuring. But even the people closest to you can get it wrong.
Abram learned this lesson the hard way. Sarai, the woman who had stood by him through thick and thin, suggested a plan that was far from God’s will for their lives. She genuinely believed she was helping Abram fulfill God’s promise, but her idea led him to follow his flesh instead of his faith. Abram trusted her love and her judgment, but he didn’t stop to weigh her suggestion against what God had already said.
And here’s where we often stumble. It’s easy to assume that the people who love us will always lead us in the right direction. But love, no matter how sincere, doesn’t equal wisdom. Sometimes, even well-meaning advice can pull you off course if it’s not aligned with God’s will.
Think about your own life. Have you ever followed someone’s suggestion simply because they loved you, only to find out later it wasn’t the best choice? Maybe a friend encouraged you to pursue a career path that didn’t align with your calling. Or perhaps a family member pushed you toward a relationship or decision that felt wrong deep down. They may have loved you, but their perspective was limited.
God’s wisdom is infinite, and His plans for your life are perfect. While it’s good to seek counsel from those who care about you, their advice should never replace God’s voice. Before you act, take their suggestions to Him. Pray, seek His Word, and trust His guidance over anyone else’s.
The best decisions you’ll ever make are the ones rooted in God’s will, not someone else’s opinion. Love and support are important, but only God knows what’s truly best for you. Lean on Him, trust His plans, and let His voice guide your steps.
