Celebrate That You Survived
"The Lord has helped me to this point." - 1 Samuel 7:12
Hezekiah’s story reminds us that survival is worth celebrating. In 2 Kings 18, we see a man who endured a troubled past. His father, Ahaz, was as ungodly as they come, practicing evil and even engaging in human sacrifice. Chapter 16 tells us that Ahaz placed some of his own children in fire. But here’s the incredible part: Hezekiah survived.
That’s no small thing. The fact that Hezekiah was alive to take the throne and follow God’s ways is a testament to God’s hand on his life. Despite everything he endured, the trauma, the dysfunction, and the danger, Hezekiah made it. And not only did he make it, he thrived.
It’s easy to focus on the negative, isn’t it? To dwell on the pain, the losses, and the things that could have destroyed you. But what if, instead of concentrating on what went wrong, you paused to celebrate the fact that you’re still here? Hezekiah could have let his father’s actions define him. Instead, he embraced the reality of his survival and chose to focus on what was good.
Despite an ungodly father, Hezekiah had a spiritual heritage through his mother, Abi, who was in the lineage of David. That heritage was a source of hope and strength. Sometimes, we overlook the blessings in our lives because we’re so focused on the brokenness. But healing begins when you find something to celebrate, even in the midst of your pain.
Your survival is proof that God isn’t finished with you yet. Think about it: you’ve endured things that could have taken you out. You’ve faced heartache, challenges, and setbacks, yet here you are. That’s worth celebrating. Your survival is a reminder that God’s hand has been on your life, protecting you, guiding you, and sustaining you through it all.
Don’t let the weight of your past overshadow the miracle of your present. Like Hezekiah, you are a survivor. And because you survived, there’s more ahead for you. Celebrate what God has brought you through and trust Him for the future He’s leading you into. You made it, and that’s just the beginning.
