Peace in the Chaos
"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May they be secure who love you!" - Psalm 122:6
Peace is something everyone wants, but few people truly experience it. The psalmist understood this when he ended his song with a prayer, not for wealth, power, or success, but for peace. He knew that peace was not just personal. It was something his entire community needed.
In a world filled with division, stress, and constant noise, it is easy to believe that peace can only exist when everything is calm. But real peace is not found in perfect conditions. It is found in God. Peace is not the absence of problems. It is the presence of God in the middle of them.
There is a story about a king who held a contest to find the perfect painting of peace. One artist painted a beautiful lake with a clear sky and towering mountains. It looked like the perfect image of peace. But the winning painting was different. It showed a storm raging over rugged, barren mountains, with lightning striking in the distance. It looked anything but peaceful. Until you looked closer. Tucked into the cracks of the rocks, a small bird sat on its nest, completely unshaken by the storm around it. That was true peace.
Peace does not come from an easy life. It comes from knowing who is in control. It comes from trusting that God is still working, even when everything around you feels unstable. The psalmist was not joyful because life was perfect. He was joyful because he had found calm in the middle of the chaos.
What is stealing your peace right now? Is it worrying about the future? Is it the fear of what could go wrong? Is it frustration over things that are out of your control? God’s peace is available to you, no matter what storm you are facing.
You do not have to wait for the chaos to disappear before you experience peace. You can have it right now. Rest in the truth that God is in control. Trust that He is working, even in the middle of your storm. The peace He gives is not fragile. It is unshakable. And when you have His peace, no storm can take it away.
