God’s Priority

"For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son." - Romans 8:29

When God gives us promises, especially those that are conditional, it’s important to remember that His ultimate priority isn’t just to fulfill those promises for us. While we often focus on the blessings we believe are coming our way, God is more concerned with something far deeper: our transformation into the image of Jesus. His greatest desire is not merely to give us what we want but to make us more like His Son.
 
God doesn’t just want to deliver us from our circumstances. He wants to mold our character. The journey toward receiving His promises is often as much about the process of change as it is about the end result. As we wait for God to fulfill His word to us, we must understand that it’s not only about what we will gain but who we are becoming in the process.

Think about how often in Scripture God used waiting periods to shape His people. Abraham waited for a child of promise. Joseph waited for his dream to come to pass. The Israelites waited in the wilderness. Each of them, in their waiting, was being refined, tested, and changed. God knew the fulfillment of His promises would not only bless them but would ultimately require a change in their hearts. He was preparing them to handle the promise, not just to receive it.
 
In your own life, perhaps you’re waiting for God to fulfill a promise He’s given you. Maybe you’re eager for a promotion, a breakthrough in your relationships, or a deeper sense of purpose. It’s easy to become fixated on what God will give us, but it’s crucial to remember that what He’s doing inside of you matters most. The fulfillment of His promises often involves a character transformation that is necessary for us to fully embrace and steward what He has for us.

God’s priority is not just the blessings, but the believer. He’s shaping you to be more like Jesus, and that process often involves challenges, refinement, and even struggle. These moments, though difficult, are opportunities for growth and transformation. They are part of God’s plan to make you more loving, patient, faithful, humble, and kind, just like His Son.
 
As you wait for God’s promises to unfold, take time to reflect on what He might be teaching you in the process. How is He changing you? What character qualities is He developing in you? Remember, the blessings will come, but the transformation God is working in you is what will last for eternity. Stay focused on becoming more like Jesus because that’s what God is most concerned with as He leads you toward the fulfillment of His promises.
