Stop Blaming and Start Trusting
"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:13-14
When life feels heavy, it’s easy to start pointing fingers. You blame the people who hurt you, the circumstances that held you back, or even God for not stepping in sooner. The truth is you might have every reason to feel justified in your frustration. Life hasn’t been fair. But living in blame will never take you where God is calling you to go.
Hezekiah could have spent his life blaming his father, Ahaz. He could have said, “If my dad hadn’t messed things up, I wouldn’t have to fix all this.” He could have let his past become the excuse for why he couldn’t lead with integrity or follow God’s ways. But he didn’t. Instead, Hezekiah chose to leave blame behind and focus on what God wanted to do in and through him.
Blame may feel satisfying in the moment, but it keeps you stuck. When you hold on to blame, you’re giving your power away. You’re letting the mistakes of others or the unfairness of life have control over your future. God’s call on your life is too important for that. He has plans for you, plans that aren’t limited by where you’ve been or what’s been done to you.
It’s time to stop looking back and start moving forward. Stop blaming others for why you can’t fulfill your purpose. Stop blaming circumstances for why you’re not where you thought you’d be. And stop blaming God for not showing up the way you expected. Instead, surrender your pain and your excuses to Him and trust that He is leading you to a future far greater than you can imagine.
God isn’t finished with you. The past doesn’t have the final word, He does. Let go of blame and take hold of His promises. When you stop blaming and start trusting, you make space for God to do something new. Today can be the day you let go of what’s behind you and press on toward the life He’s called you to.
