Never Alone
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." - Psalm 46:1
One of the greatest challenges in life is feeling alone in your struggles. When difficulties come, it is easy to wonder if God is really there. The psalmist understood this, yet throughout Psalm 46, he confidently declares the presence of God. He does not speak about God in the past tense or as someone who might show up later. He says God is.
That distinction is important. The psalmist does not say God was our refuge or God will be our strength. He says God is. Right now, in this moment, in whatever you are facing, God is with you. That truth is easy to believe when life is going well. But the real test of faith is whether you can hold on to that belief when everything around you feels uncertain.
Israel had every reason to doubt. They faced wars, defeats, and enemies on every side. It would have been easy for them to conclude that God had abandoned them. Yet they remained convinced of His presence. That is the kind of faith you need. The faith that does not waver in the face of hardship. The faith that clings to God even when circumstances try to convince you otherwise.
The hymn Never Alone reminds us of this promise. I’ve seen the lightning flashing and heard the thunder roll. I’ve felt sin’s breakers dashing, trying to conquer my soul. I’ve heard the voice of my Savior, telling me still to fight on. He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone.
You are not in this alone. God has not left you. He has not forgotten you. He is present in your pain, walking with you through every trial, strengthening you when you feel weak.
Maybe you feel abandoned right now. Maybe the weight of life has made you question if God is really with you. Do not let your circumstances dictate your faith. The same God who has carried you this far will not leave you now. Hold on to Him. Trust in His presence. No matter what comes your way, He is your refuge. He is your strength. And He is with you. Always.
