Ready to Receive
“There was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon…” - Luke 2:25
In life, sometimes it’s not just about having a promise, it’s about being in the right position to receive it. Think about some of the greatest catches in NFL history—like Plaxico Burress's touchdown in the Super Bowl or Franco Harris's “Immaculate Reception.” What made these moments so incredible wasn’t just the athletic ability of the players, it was their ability to be in the right position at the right moment.
Simeon’s story illustrates this same principle. He had been promised by the Holy Spirit that he would see the Messiah before his death. But more than just receiving the promise, Simeon understood that he had to position himself correctly to witness this fulfillment.
Simeon made his way to Jerusalem, the “city of peace.” In Hebrew, Jerusalem means “city of peace,” and it was no coincidence that Simeon’s journey took him there. Peace was the environment where God’s promise would be revealed.
God is showing us today that if we want to receive His promises, we need to place ourselves in environments that foster peace. Where you are, who you’re with, and what you surround yourself with greatly influence your ability to receive God’s best for your life.
Think about it: Can you truly hear from God when your surroundings are chaotic? Can you really experience His peace when you’re surrounded by conflict and negativity? If you’re around people who don’t nurture peace, if you’re involved in relationships or situations that leave you unsettled, you might miss out on the blessings God has for you.
Are you in a place that fosters peace, or are you surrounding yourself with stress, worry, and negativity? If you’re struggling with relationships, finances, or personal growth, ask yourself: Are the people and environments I’m surrounded by helping me grow in peace? If not, it’s time to shift your position. Like Simeon, you need to be in a place where you can hear from God and where peace can flow freely into your life. When you position yourself in peace, you open the door for God to reveal His promises to you in powerful ways.
