Living With No Regrets
"But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:13-14
It’s funny how one small mistake can leave a lasting impression. That old Milky Way commercial nailed it. A construction worker paints a crooked line on the road, a guy lets his friend get squished under a couch, and then there’s the classic moment; a biker sits down for a tattoo, only to see the artist, distracted by her candy bar, ink the words “no regerts” on his arm. It’s humorous, ironic, and yet strangely relatable.
Regret is something everyone deals with. It’s that lingering thought of “what if” and “if only.” Even some of Hollywood’s biggest names have their fair share of it. Cary Grant could have been James Bond. Will Smith passed on the role of Neo in The Matrix. Sean Connery turned down playing Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, a decision that cost him $400 million. No matter how successful they became, there had to be moments when they wondered what could have been.
You have probably felt that too. The missed opportunities, the things you wish you had done differently, the moments you wish you could take back. Maybe it was a decision that altered your career, a relationship you let slip away, or a step of faith you were too afraid to take. Regret has a way of holding you hostage, making you replay moments that can never be changed.
But Paul gives a different perspective. Instead of dwelling on the past, he says to forget what lies behind and press forward. You cannot rewrite history, but you can decide how you move forward. Living with no regrets does not mean you will never make mistakes, it means you refuse to let them define you. It means trusting that God’s plan is bigger than your failures and that He can redeem even the choices you wish you could undo.
You do not have to spend your days wondering “what if.” Choose to live fully, trusting that as long as you are walking with God, you will never miss out on what He has for you.
