What You Put in Matters
“And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.’” - Genesis 1:29
When you think about your body as a temple of God, the choices you make about what you put into it take on spiritual significance. Scripture repeatedly shows us that God cares deeply about how we care for our bodies. From the Garden of Eden to Daniel’s disciplined choices in Babylon, the message is clear: what you consume matters to God.
Just look at Daniel and his friends, who chose not to defile themselves with the rich foods and wine from the king’s table. Instead, they ate vegetables and drank water. After just ten days, they looked healthier and stronger than those who indulged in the luxurious fare. Their choice wasn’t just based on physical health; it was a declaration of faithfulness to God. This story reminds us that discipline in what we consume can honor God while also improving our physical well-being.
The Bible also speaks to mental and emotional health. When John wrote to Gaius, praying for him to prosper in health as his soul prospered, it highlighted the importance of holistic well-being. Emotional and psychological health, just like physical health, impacts your ability to live abundantly. Toxicity—whether in thoughts, relationships, or substances—can harm you and threaten your survival. God desires more for you than just survival. He wants you to thrive.
What you eat, drink, and even think affects your body and your spirit. God designed you to flourish, and His Word offers guidance on how to live healthily and abundantly. As you make daily decisions, consider how they reflect your faith and your care for the temple God has given you.
