Don’t Let Desperation Drive You
"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" - Psalm 27:14
Desperation can be a dangerous thing. When you’re frustrated with how long something is taking or how uncertain the outcome seems, it’s easy to let desperation cloud your judgment. You might still be chasing after a good and noble goal, but if you’re driven by impatience, you can end up taking matters into your own hands in ways that go against what God has planned for you.
Think about the moments when you’ve felt God wasn’t moving fast enough. Maybe you’ve been praying for something—a relationship, a job, a breakthrough—and it feels like time is running out. That urgency starts to whisper, “Do something now. Take control. Find a workaround.” And before you know it, you’re pursuing the right goal in the wrong way.
Abram and Sarai found themselves in a similar place. They believed God’s promise to give them a child, but as time dragged on, they grew desperate. They started questioning if they misunderstood how God planned to fulfill that promise. Their desperation led them to come up with their own solution, a solution that ultimately caused more heartache and struggle than they could have imagined.
Here’s the tricky part: desperation often disguises itself as good intentions. You tell yourself you’re just trying to help things along or do what’s necessary to see God’s promises come to pass. But God’s plans come with His timing and His methods and stepping outside of that will always cause problems.
When you’re feeling desperate, it’s crucial to pause and ask yourself, “Is this decision rooted in trust or fear? Am I trying to honor God’s will or take matters into my own hands?” Waiting on God isn’t easy, but rushing ahead of Him will always leave you feeling emptier than before.
God is never late. His promises are sure, and His plans are perfect. Desperation might push you to act now, but faith invites you to wait. Trust that His timing will never fail, and don’t let frustration lead you to decisions that you’ll later regret. Stay patient, stay faithful, and let Him work things out in His way.
