God Is Closer Than You Think
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." - Psalm 46:1
There is something powerful about the way the Psalmist describes God. He does not just say God is present. He says God is very present. That means the more trouble you face, the more present He becomes. He does not back away when things get harder. He draws even closer.
People are not always like that. Some will support you when the stakes are low, but when your struggles become too heavy, they disappear. They may pray for you when things are minor, but when you need something bigger, they do not want to be inconvenienced. God is not like that. His faithfulness is not conditional. His presence does not depend on how easy or difficult your situation is. The psalmist is reminding you that when life gets overwhelming, God does not withdraw. He steps in.
That truth is what builds resilience. When you are confident in the reliability of God, you do not have to live in fear of what might happen. Your trust is not based on the idea that nothing bad will ever come your way. It is based on the certainty that when trials do come, God is still in control. The enemy may attack. Life may throw unexpected struggles your way. But none of it will succeed because God is your refuge.
A refuge is more than a hiding place. It is a place of strength. God does not shield you just to keep you comfortable. He shelters you so that you can stand firm when life comes at you from every direction. The Israelites often made the mistake of running to other nations for help when they should have turned to God. You face the same temptation. When pressure builds, it is easy to rely on your own strength, to look for solutions outside of God, or to turn to temporary fixes. But the only place you will find lasting peace and security is in Him.
If you feel like you are in a tight spot right now, do not panic. God is not far away. He is very present. He is holding you together when everything feels like it is falling apart. He is your refuge, your strength, and your ever-present help. Hold on to that truth. No matter what you are facing, you are never alone.
