Power In The Person
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us." - Ephesians 3:20
“Now unto him who is able…” This powerful phrase reminds us that our strength and power as Christians derive from being plugged into an actual person—Jesus Christ. Our faith is not in an object, an abstract concept, or a set of ethical postulates. Our faith is in a living, moving, historical person who is the embodiment of God Himself. As we sing in that great hymn and doxology of the church, “God in three persons, blessed Trinity,” we affirm the presence and power of Jesus Christ in our lives.
Paul’s message to the Ephesians emphasizes that the power we possess as believers comes from our relationship with Jesus Christ. He doesn't want the congregation to forget that their power lies in the PERSON of Jesus Christ. This is a significant distinction. Our faith is not based on philosophical syllogisms or transcendental realities. It is rooted in the living presence of Jesus Christ. The power we have is bestowed upon us through our relationship with Him.
As Christians, we’ve been given power, power that is both within us and from us. This power is not an abstract force; it is the power of a person—Jesus Christ. It is through Him that we have the strength to overcome challenges, the courage to face difficulties, and the ability to live out God’s purpose for our lives. The power in Jesus is key to our faith and our ability to navigate the complexities of life.
Think about the implications of this power in your life. Are you tapping into the power that comes from your relationship with Jesus? Are you relying on His strength and guidance, or are you trying to navigate life on your own? The power we have in Jesus is not just a theological concept; it is a practical reality that can transform our lives.
Recommit today to plugging into the power of Jesus Christ. Rely on Him for your strength, guidance, and purpose. Embrace the power of a person, the power in a person, and the power from a person—Jesus Christ—and experience the fullness of life that comes from being connected to Him.
