The Courage to Ask for Help
“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on us!” – Matthew 20:30
The story of the two blind men by the roadside in Matthew 20 is powerful not just because of the miracle that happened, but because of what took place before it. They were healed, yes. But that healing started the moment they had the courage to cry out and ask for help.
They weren’t the only ones by that road. There were likely others with similar needs who stayed silent. And isn’t that so often the case? So many people carry pain, fear, confusion, and dysfunction behind a smile. They know something is not right. They feel the weight of what they are carrying. But still, they stay quiet.
Why? Because admitting you need help feels vulnerable. Because pride makes us believe we can figure it out on our own. Because shame whispers that we should have it together by now. But nothing changes until you bring the problem out of hiding.
Maybe you have been in that place. You have tried to shake off what you’re feeling. You’ve told yourself it will pass, that it’s just a rough patch. But the more you ignore it, the worse it gets. You’ve widened your eyes, hoping clarity would come, but everything still feels blurry.
There is nothing weak about asking for help. It takes strength to say, “Jesus, I need You.” It takes faith to admit you cannot fix it on your own. Healing never begins with hiding. It starts when you are honest enough to say, “I’m not okay. I don’t have all the answers. I’m tired of pretending.”
The two blind men weren’t afraid to be loud about what they lacked. They didn’t let ego or fear keep them stuck. They knew they couldn’t heal what they were still hiding, and they weren’t going to let another moment pass without reaching out to the one who could help them.
What about you? Are you ready to stop pretending? Are you ready to be real about what’s going on beneath the surface? If so, open your mouth. Call on Jesus. Be honest. Be humble. That may just be the moment your healing begins.
