When God Outdoes Himself
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us" – Ephesians 3:20
One of the things you’ll learn as you walk with God is that He rarely stops at just enough. He’s not a minimalist when it comes to blessing His people. He’s not in the business of barely getting you by. Instead, God has a track record of doing far more than we ask for, more than we imagine, more than we even have the nerve to pray for.
Take the story in Luke 5, for example. Peter had been fishing all night and caught nothing. Tired and discouraged, he was ready to pack it in. But Jesus told him to cast his nets again. Reluctantly, Peter did, and what happened next was almost unbelievable. He caught so many fish that the nets began to break. The boats began to sink. He asked for one more shot at a catch, but God gave him an overflow.
Peter just wanted a fish or two to feel like the night wasn’t a total waste. But Jesus had something greater in mind. That day wasn’t just about catching fish. It was about showing Peter what was possible when you trust the Word of the Lord. It was the start of a journey where Peter would go from catching fish to leading a movement.
That’s how God works. You ask for provision, and He brings purpose. You pray for survival, and He brings significance. You hope for healing, and He brings wholeness.
Sometimes we approach God with small prayers because we think we’re being humble. But what if we’re underestimating the size of His heart? What if the reason He hasn’t answered yet is because He’s preparing something bigger than what we prayed for?
God is not limited by your imagination. He’s not boxed in by your expectations. He’s not obligated to stick to your script. If anything, He’s writing a better one. So keep trusting, keep praying, and keep walking in faith. Because when God moves, He doesn’t just meet the need. He outdoes Himself. Every time.
