Who's Driving Your Life?
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6
California is known for its high-speed car chases. Whenever they are on the news, they garner nationwide attention. Whether in movies or on television, these chases captivate us, pulling us to the edge of our seats as we watch a reckless driver lead the police on a dangerous pursuit. These scenes are full of suspense, drama, and sometimes tragedy, as the driver weaves through busy traffic to flee the scene of a crime and evade capture.
Recently, I came across a story about a high-speed chase that took a surprising turn, when a rogue driver was going way too fast, weaving in and out of traffic, causing havoc for others, and even endangering himself in the process.
The car ran lights, drove through intersections, cut off unsuspecting drivers, and even navigated through a gas station before coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road. As onlookers watched and television cameras gave commentary, everyone was eager to know who was behind the wheel.
The officer in immediate pursuit called for backup, and as more officers arrived, they all wanted to know who was driving that car. But when they approached the vehicle, they discovered something that literally blew everyone’s mind. Rather than finding a bank robber, an escaped convict, or a disgruntled individual, they found a 9-year-old boy. That’s right. This car that caused so much commotion and jeopardized the lives of many was being driven by a child.
When California Highway Patrolman, Officer Terry Dunn, opened the car door, the boy simply said, “Sorry officer. I was just trying to get to school.” Apparently, the little boy was late for school because his parents had overslept, so he found the car keys and decided to drive to school by himself. While none of us can be mad at his desire to get to school, it shows us something crucial: bad things can happen when the wrong person is driving the car. Even with the best intentions, if the wrong person is in control, things can go awry.
This story can make you think about your own life. Who's driving your car? Are you trying to reach a goal or destination with the wrong person in control? Sometimes, we might have good intentions, but if we don't let God take the wheel, we can find ourselves in dangerous situations. Trusting in God and letting Him guide us is crucial. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. When we submit to Him, He will make our paths straight.
