Pointing Beyond Ourselves
"For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned." - Romans 12:3
Have you ever received a gift or talent that seemed tailor-made for you? Perhaps you possess a skill that sets you apart or a platform that amplifies your voice. In these moments, it's easy to bask in the glow of our own achievements, to build our own name and reputation. But as followers of Christ, we're called to a different posture—one that directs attention not to ourselves but to the One who gave us these gifts.
God's gifts and abilities are not given to us for our own glory but for His. Each talent, each opportunity is a reflection of His grace and goodness in our lives. Yet, it's all too common to fall into the trap of self-promotion, using our gifts as a means to elevate our own status.
But let's consider this: every platform we're given, every talent we possess is ultimately meant to point beyond ourselves—to shine a spotlight on the greatness of God. Our lives should be like signposts, directing others' attention to His name, His love, and His glory.
When we use our gifts to build our own kingdoms, we miss the mark of our true calling. Instead of drawing attention to ourselves, we're called to humble ourselves before God, recognizing that He alone deserves all honor and praise. Our talents are not for self-exaltation but for the exaltation of His name.
So, let's examine our hearts and motivations today. Are we using our gifts and platforms to elevate ourselves, or are we using them as instruments of praise to magnify God's name? Let's commit to stewarding our talents with humility and gratitude, always mindful of the One who entrusted them to us.
