Shining Light in Darkness
"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" - John 8:12
Have you ever had to navigate through darkness? It can be daunting, difficult, and even dangerous. Imagine the challenge faced by a helicopter pilot flying a secret mission in total darkness to rescue a distressed soldier in Vietnam. He could only rely on the instruments of his helicopter to guide him. Yet, under the cover of heavy clouds, he found an unexpected source of light – a small lighter held up by the soldier on the ground. This tiny flame pierced through the darkness, guiding the pilot safely to his destination.
In many ways, the mission of this pilot mirrors our call as believers in Jesus Christ. Look around, and you'll see that we are surrounded by darkness. Our political landscape is marred by division and hatred, threatening the very foundations of our democracy. Economic disparities continue to widen, and war ravages communities around the world.
In the midst of this darkness, we are called to be light bearers. Just as Jesus declared Himself to be the light of the world, we are called to follow Him and shine His light into the darkest corners of society. We may feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the darkness, but even the smallest light can make a difference.
Think of the soldier's small lighter guiding the helicopter through the dense jungle. Likewise, our acts of kindness, love, and compassion can pierce through the darkness, offering hope and guidance to those in need. Whether it's standing up for justice, advocating for the marginalized, or simply extending a helping hand to someone in need, each act of light pushes back against the darkness.
I want to encourage you to allow the light of Christ to shine through you, illuminating the path for others and bringing hope where there is despair. As you follow Him, you will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life, guiding you every step of the way.
