The Power of a Wish
"I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death." - Philippians 3:10
In 1980, a young boy named Christopher James Greicius captured the hearts of an entire community in Phoenix, Arizona, as he battled leukemia with unwavering courage and resilience. Little did Chris know that his simple wish of becoming a police officer would ignite a movement that would touch the lives of millions of children facing critical illnesses. The Make-A-Wish Foundation was born out of this noble endeavor, dedicated to granting the wishes of children in need and providing them with a beacon of hope in the midst of adversity.
Reflecting on the profound impact of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, I couldn't help but consider the significance of wishes in our own lives. We all harbor dreams, desires, and aspirations, whether it's achieving financial success, embarking on dream vacations, or finding love and fulfillment in our relationships. These hopes and dreams are a natural part of the human experience, guiding us toward a brighter and more fulfilling future.
Yet, amidst our personal aspirations, there is one wish that should resonate deeply within the heart of every child of God. Despite facing persecution and imprisonment for preaching the Gospel, the apostle Paul penned a letter from his confinement, expressing his singular desire above all else. In Philippians 3:10, Paul declares, "I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death."
Paul's wish transcends the temporal desires of this world, emphasizing the eternal significance of knowing Christ intimately. In the face of adversity and uncertainty, Paul's greatest longing is for a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, to experience the transformative power of His resurrection and the profound fellowship found in sharing in His sufferings.
As children of God, may we align our wishes with the heart of Paul, prioritizing the pursuit of Christ above all else. In times of trial and tribulation, may our greatest desire be to know Him more intimately, to experience the life-changing power of His resurrection, and to find solace and strength in the fellowship of His sufferings. Let us echo Paul's wish as our own, seeking a deeper connection with the One who offers true hope, healing, and fulfillment in every season of life.
