The Power Within
"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord." - Hebrews 12:14
In our fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in pursuing external things—wealth, possessions, status, and relationships. But the essence of true power, according to Scripture, lies not in these external pursuits, but in the pursuit of holiness.
Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, emphasizes that real power comes from tending to the inner self. It's an inside job. Just as a computer functions better when unnecessary tabs are closed, our lives operate more effectively when we prioritize cleansing our hearts, minds, and spirits.
I like to use the analogy of a cluttered computer desktop. When numerous tabs are open, the processor becomes overwhelmed, hindering its ability to function optimally. Similarly, when our hearts and minds are cluttered with distractions and impurities, our spiritual growth and effectiveness suffer.
A spiritual detox is akin to decluttering our internal desktops. It's about giving ourselves a break and allowing our self-healing processes to kick into gear. Detoxing isn't about earning salvation; it's about enhancing our productivity in God's kingdom.
The pursuit of holiness is not a suggestion; it's a command. In Hebrews 12:14, we're urged to strive for holiness, as it's through holiness that we draw closer to God. It's through holiness that we reflect His image to the world.
So, what does this mean for us? It means prioritizing the cleanliness of our minds, bodies, thoughts, hearts, relationships, and spirits. It means closing the unnecessary tabs of negativity, impurity, and distraction. It means intentionally nurturing a life that is pleasing to God.
As we embark on this journey of spiritual renewal, remember that true power comes from within. Commit to pursuing holiness above all else, knowing that in doing so, we align ourselves with the source of all power—our holy and righteous God.
