Give Him the Glory
"Sarah said, 'God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.'" - Genesis 21:6
Have you ever considered the weight of the process you go through in life? The journey, the trials, and the waiting can feel burdensome, but there's something remarkable that happens in the midst of it all. The process, when entrusted to God, can lead to an increase in joy, amplified praise, and magnified thanksgiving.
Take Sarah and Abraham, for instance. They had longed for a child for years, and the weight of infertility had been a heavy burden to bear. It wasn't until their old age, when human hope seemed to have faded, that God's promise was fulfilled with the birth of their son, Isaac.
I believe that Sarah and Abraham would have been joyful had Isaac been born 25 years earlier, but there's something special about the joy that follows a long and trying process. In Genesis 21:6, Sarah exclaims, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." It's the kind of laughter that springs from the heart, a laughter of deep joy, gratitude, and awe at God's goodness.
Sarah was so amazed and overjoyed by God's blessing and the miracle of Isaac's birth that she saw it as an opportunity to showcase God's goodness and give Him the glory. After all the years of God's guidance, protection, and provision, this was a moment to pause and offer Him the praise He rightfully deserved.
This laughter wasn't just a spontaneous reaction; it was a recognition that only God could make this happen. The weight of the process, the passage of time, had been designed to help Sarah and Abraham realize that this was something only God could accomplish.
In our lives, one of the greatest temptations is to take credit for God's work ourselves. However, Sarah's story serves as a powerful reminder that when God performs a miracle, it is our duty to give Him praise, honor, and glory in return.
Abraham's feast in verse 8 was an acknowledgment that without the Lord's intervention, they wouldn't be where they were. It was a celebration of God's faithfulness and a declaration that only God could have brought about this miraculous birth.
Whenever God performs a miracle in our lives, whether big or small, it is our responsibility to respond with verbal, vocal, and visible praise. We must let our joy and gratitude spill over, sharing our testimony of God's goodness and faithfulness with others.
In the midst of your journey, remember that God is at work, and His timing is perfect. When He brings you through, don't forget to give Him the glory and share the story of His faithfulness with those around you.
