The Blessing of Imperfection
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”- 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
Theodore Roosevelt has been quoted as saying, “The only man who never makes mistakes is the man who never does anything.” Thomas Edison spent more than $100,000 to obtain 6,000 different fiber specimens, and only three of them proved satisfactory. However, each new opportunity provided a chance to learn and grow. There is more to learn in failure than success because it causes you to step outside of your comfort zone and do things differently.
Peter is a perfect example of someone who was blessed in his imperfection. In Mark 14:27-31, Peter denies Jesus. Peter says. “Even if all are made to stumble, yet I will not be…. If I have to die with You, I will not deny You.” Peter goes on to deny Jesus three times and when he realizes, he breaks down and weeps (Mark 14: 72).
Peter thinks of himself as being an unworthy disciple for Christ and returns to his life as a fisherman. However, the good news is that Peter is restored by Jesus. For the three times he denied Jesus, Jesus asks him three times if he loves Him. And if so, He required Peter to “Feed [His] sheep” or save the lost (John 21:15-19). Peter chooses to follow Jesus.
In Peter’s imperfection was redemption and hope. Peter was restored to do the work of the Lord. The Lord extended GRACE (giving him what he didn’t deserve—forgiveness) and MERCY (not giving him what he did deserve—condemnation). And because of this love act, Peter was prepared to be a disciple for Christ to save others the way he was saved.
Maybe you have not denied Christ, but there are areas of your life that are weak. Your restoration can be found in God. You are only one prayer away! Ask God to forgive you of your sins and strengthen you in the areas you struggle so that you can be a better disciple for Him.
