Pleasing God
“Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more.” - 1 Thessalonians 4:1
There is a quote that says, “If you try to please everyone, you will please no one. It is impossible to lead your life for others’ happiness.” This is a popular concept when starting a business. “Niche” businesses are often very successful because of this very concept. They aren’t trying to appeal to everyone.
Instead, they find those that relate to their message (their target audience), and they sell to them. They let the rest find another business better suited for their needs. Ask the best business minds and they will tell you, when you try to sell to everyone, you will sell to no one.
The same is true for our lives. We will never be able to please everyone, so there is no need in trying. Luckily, God didn’t call us to focus on pleasing others. He called us to focus on pleasing Him; and in turn, we would reach those He needed us to reach. 1 Thessalonians 4:1 says, “Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more.”
There is no need to add undo stress in your life trying to cater to everyone. No matter what you do, some people will still not be pleased. Do what God is calling you to do and allow the chips to fall where they may. Because getting a “well done” from God trumps the praise of people any day.
