You Are His
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” - 2 Corinthians 5:17
Yesterday, we talked about a 19th-century artist named Paul Gustave Dore. Dore faced an identity crisis in which he was unable to cross the border because he had misplaced his passport. Dore had to find a way to identify who he was. It was not a matter of where he was going, but who he was that helped him.
Can you relate to this problem? Maybe you know exactly where you want to go. You have all your dreams and goals lined up. You know exactly how you need to get there and which path you are going to take. You have it all mapped out. In a world where seemingly no one knows what they want to do, that is not an issue for you; you know exactly what you are going to do, and where it is going to lead you.
But do you know who you are? Maybe that is the whole point of the journey you have laid out for yourself. You think that is going to tell you who you are. Maybe your identity is wrapped up in something you did. Maybe it is in the sin you struggle with. Maybe it is in a past failure you had. Maybe it is in a relationship that blew up that you believe was your fault.
If any of these examples sound familiar, I have good news for you. NONE OF THEM are your identity. You are not your past mistakes, you are not the sum of a former or current, and you are not the sin you struggle with. If you have given your life to Christ, YOU ARE HIS.
Your identity is found in Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. But your identity is found in your relationship with Christ. Who are you? You Are His.
