The Highest Praise
"Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger." – Psalm 8:2
In Matthew’s Gospel, right after Jesus clears the temple, something powerful happens. Children begin to lift their voices in praise. While the religious leaders are busy criticizing and demanding order, the kids in the room are the ones leading worship. They are shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” giving open and joyful praise to Jesus right in the middle of the temple courts.
What stands out is not just that they were unashamed to praise, but that they praised for more than what had already happened. They praised for what was on the way. Standing in the presence of the Messiah, they sensed something greater was coming. They were too young to be cynical, too free to be silent, and too full of faith to be ashamed. Their praise wasn’t held back by tradition or fear. It was real, expectant, and powerful.
Jesus didn’t just accept their praise; He pointed to prophecy. He quoted Psalm 8:2, reminding everyone that God has always chosen to use the simple, humble voices to silence the enemy. In Luke’s account of this same moment, when the Pharisees tried to shut it down, Jesus said if these children don’t cry out, the stones themselves will. That’s how serious praise is to God. If you stay silent, creation itself will take your place.
We live in a world that often gives praise freely to athletes, celebrities, and influencers. But not all praise is equal. Some people deserve thanks. A few may deserve honor. But only God deserves the highest praise. The psalmist said in Psalm 96:4, “For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.” He is the only one who has never failed, never changed.
Today, let your praise rise. Not just for what God has done, but for what is still coming. Deliverance is on the way. Healing is on the way. Peace is on the way. You do not need perfect conditions to lift your voice. You just need the right perspective. And if you have breath in your body, you have every reason to give Him praise.
