Surrounded By God
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10
During the invasion of Iraq during the Desert Storm, the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, was sent to help allied troops. But when they got there on February 26, 1991, they discovered an entire Iraqi armored division lying in wait. Between the 2nd squadron, and those they sought to help, were landmines and a rough terrain that prevented them from fulfilling their task.
But they pressed on. As they advanced through enemy fire, most of the enemy rounds bounced off the vehicles and drivers avoided the bulk of the mines. The Americans pushed through 30 Iraqi tanks and 14 armored vehicles with no American losses. In the aftermath of the battle, it was discovered that the reason the 2nd squadron was successful was that the commander called for reinforcements ahead of time, and he knew that there were friendly snipers surrounding the enemies that were surrounding them.
When it appeared that our troops were surrounded by the enemy, the truth was that the enemy was surrounded by our troops. Americans were able to win because of the reinforcements. That happens not just on the battlefield, but also in life.
There is nothing worse than feeling engulfed or surrounded by the challenges and circumstances of life. Financial hardships, health issues, and family challenges, all can leave us feeling overwhelmed and on the verge of being conquered. But we can find solace in the fact that the enemies, trials, and troubles that surround us are ultimately surrounded by God.
Isaiah 41:10 tells us, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” No matter what you face, God is surrounding you, and not only you, but everything that comes up against you. And He promises to strengthen you and help you. He will uphold you with His righteous right hand!
