Never Thirst Again
“But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” - John 4:14
Do you know why many people continue to struggle with the same sins? Why alcoholics continue to drink? Porn addicts continue to watch porn? Thieves continue to steal? Liars and manipulators continue to tangle the truth to get what they want?
They do these things because none of these sins satisfy. They quench your thirst only for a time, and then you will inevitably need them again. But Jesus gives us Living Water that will leave you never thirsty again. He promises this to the woman at the well in John 4 when he says, “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Jesus is speaking to a woman who has been shamed for having five husbands and now being in a sexual relationship with another man who is not her husband. She continues to find these men because no man can satisfy her true needs. See, no man or woman can satisfy what you truly need. No drink or substance can satisfy what you truly need.
We attempt to use these things as quick fixes, but that is all they are. They work for a short time and then you are back for more because they did not truly satisfy. Only God the Father, the one who created you and made you to be who you are, knows how to truly satisfy you. What you need is Him.
See, this world can never satisfy. You are an imperfect person, living in an imperfect world. As your Creator, He did not make this world to satisfy you. He made you, knowing only He can fill that void. As long as you continue to search for it elsewhere, you will continue to be thirsty. Time and time again you will go back to the things that you wish you could escape.
But you can escape. The answer is Jesus. Seek Him, for He is the one who will give you the Living Water, the water that will make you never thirst again!
