The Multi-Colored Butterfly
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” - Romans 8:28
Yesterday, we highlighted the story of the 5-year-old boy who made a gift in his classroom for his father, a college professor. When his dad came to visit him on the last day before Christmas, the boy, with so much joy, ran to his father to give him the gift he had made. The object came flying out of the boy’s hands and shattered into pieces on the ground.
The little boy fell to the ground crying. To him, it was the most expensive gift. He crumpled down on the floor next to his broken gift with sadness and a broken heart and just started crying. His father rushed to his son’s side trying to console him and did so until the crying ceased.
The mother, who later entered, said, “Now, let’s go home and see what can be made with what is left.” And so, with the mother’s magic and a glue gun, they put the broken pieces together. From the shattered ceramic pieces of an otherwise unrecognizable object, they made a beautiful multi-colored butterfly that the professor proudly placed on his desk for everyone to see.
Amazingly, what the little boy discovered was that the artwork was much more beautiful after it was broken. And the little boy who was inconsolable just moments before realized that something could ultimately come out of his grief.
This is not only true for the little boy, but for you and me as well. God works in the same way. Just when your heart breaks and things do not seem to work out as well as you thought they would, God is not finished. He still has a multi-colored butterfly coming your way. Romans 8:28 tells us this, it says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
God can and will turn things around for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. He is not finished yet. Wait and watch how He turns your broken ceramic gift into a multi-colored butterfly, more beautiful than anything you could have ever made on your own!
