A True Connection
“The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’” - Genesis 2:18
In 2020, Cigna, a healthcare company, reported that more than 3 out of 5 Americans felt lonely, claiming they felt left out, poorly understood and lacking in companionship. This was a13% rise in loneliness from 2018. And I am sure with COVID and its residual effects, the numbers are higher. Loneliness can lead to depression, poor sleep quality, cognitive decline, impaired immunity, and decreased mortality. We can even be surrounded by people and still feel isolated.
Apart from God, it is hard to find true meaning. This is what led Solomon to say in Ecclesiastes that everything is meaningless. Solomon was a wealthy monarch, but he realized that material things could not appease his weary soul. People cannot fill spiritual voids and we will always be left needing and wanting more when we rely on people to satisfy our needs above God.
There is nothing wrong with wanting companionship and desiring to be a part of a collective. The Lord said, “It is not good for man to be alone.” He created us to socialize with others and build connections here on earth to glorify His name. However, our connection with others should not replace our connection with God.
In what areas of your life can you enhance you connection with God? For 2022, what do you want to improve? How do you want to grow spiritually? God will never leave nor forsake you. He is only one conversation and one prayer away. When you feel left out, misunderstood or you are lacking earthly companionship, remember that God is waiting right there for you. Time in His presence is a blessing.
