Where Has The Time Gone?
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” - James 4:8
Have you ever been reading your Bible or praying, and your mind wanders to something else—the tasks you must do for the day or week, your kids, the excitement of a new task or trip, or even the challenges you face ahead? Before you know it, you are asking “Where has the time gone?” Now, you are running late and off to take care of the things you have to do; Meanwhile, you have neglected to take the time to commune with God.
I am sure we can all say that we have been guilty of neglecting our time with God. We get so wrapped up in our to-do list, that we forget that God is in control of everything we are trying to control. And then we only go to Him when things become out of control. Distractions take our focus off God and weaken our relationship with Him. God wants us to focus on Him so that He can equip us with everything good for doing His will.
Dedicate a time in the day to spend time with God. Morning, mid-day, night, whatever works best. If you have multiple times, that is great. But starting with a specific time will help you get into the routine of fellowship.
Remove any distractions. For example, if you know that you check your phone frequently, turn it off or silence it until after you have read your Bible, prayed, and meditated. Ask family members to be respectful of this time. If you have small children, your dedicated time may be after they are sleep.
Center your thoughts. At first, it will be difficult to stay focused. However, practice makes perfect. Pray, mediate, and ask God to keep you on track.
The Lord enjoys spending time with us. He wants to know our joys and concerns. He is like a parent waiting for his or her kid to get home from their first day of school. He waits in anticipation for us to run to Him. If you haven’t done so already, spend some time with God. Read the Bible, journal, write down and meditate on some bible verses, and ask God for spiritual guidance.
Remember: Time spent with God is never wasted!
