Wrestling With the Call
"But Moses said to the Lord, Oh my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue." - Exodus 4:10
Moses didn’t want the job. That’s what most people forget. We remember the miracles, the staff turning into a snake, the Red Sea splitting wide open. But before any of that happened, there was a man standing in front of a burning bush trying to get out of what God had asked him to do.
Moses gave excuses. He pointed out his flaws. He asked God to send someone else. And maybe that’s where you are right now. You feel a pull on your heart, a sense that God is calling you to something greater, but you keep looking at your weaknesses and wondering how in the world you’re supposed to pull it off.
God never once denied Moses’ limitations. He didn’t pretend Moses was perfect. What He did was promise to be with him, to give him the words, and to surround him with help. The calling didn’t depend on Moses’ confidence. It depended on God’s presence.
This is a reminder that wrestling with your calling doesn’t disqualify you. God isn’t surprised by your fear. He’s not thrown off by your hesitation. He knows exactly what you bring to the table, and He still chose you.
It’s okay to wrestle. It’s okay to feel the weight of what God is asking. What’s not okay is walking away from it just because it scares you.
Moses almost missed the opportunity of a lifetime because he couldn’t see himself the way God did. Let that be a warning. And let it also be a challenge.
If God is calling you, He will equip you. And if He is stirring something in your heart, it is for a reason. Your weaknesses are not the end of the story. They are the place where God begins to show His strength.
You might be wrestling with the call, but God is still calling.
