God Doesn’t Waste the Wilderness
"Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God." - Exodus 3:1
Before the plagues, before Pharaoh, before the Red Sea split in two, Moses was just a man walking through the wilderness tending sheep. It was not glamorous. It was not exciting. And from the outside, it probably looked like a life that had stalled out.
But that is where God showed up.
This is one of the most overlooked parts of the story. Moses wasn’t in a palace or on a stage when God called him. He was in the wilderness, doing what looked like a simple, ordinary task. And that is exactly where God met him, lit up a bush, and changed his life forever.
Some of the most powerful moments in your life will happen far from the spotlight. You might feel stuck in a season that feels quiet, unseen, or unimportant. But God does not waste seasons like that. He uses them.
The wilderness was not a delay. It was preparation. It was there that Moses learned how to lead. How to watch over something that did not belong to him. How to walk with patience. How to obey when no one else was looking.
God often trains people in obscurity before He uses them publicly. He refines character in the quiet before He releases purpose into the world.
So if you feel like nothing big is happening right now, do not write it off. That may be the exact place where God is getting you ready for what is next.
Moses thought he was just taking care of sheep. He had no idea that God was about to call him to lead a nation.
Your wilderness is not the end. It might just be the mountain where everything starts to change.
