Setup For A Comeback
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” - Romans 8:28
Every March, one of the biggest sporting events of the year takes place—the NCAA National Basketball Tournament, better known as “March Madness.” People from all over the country, whether they watch basketball or not, fill out brackets and try to predict round by round who will win the huge 68 team tournament.
The bracket is setup in a way that if you win, you advance, and your dreams of winning a national championship are still alive. If you lose, your season is over. It is a single elimination tournament. Isn’t it great to know that God doesn’t treat our life like a single elimination tournament, writing us off after one mistake? He gives us chance after chance to get it right because He loves us.
When you mess up, it is simply a setback. The good news is a setback can simply be a setup for an even greater comeback. Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player ever, took two years off to play baseball. But he was not finished. He came back to basketball and won three NBA championships in a row.
There are many stories of biblical characters who messed up, made mistakes, and blew it—Jacob was a deceiver, David was an adulterer, Moses and Paul were murderers. But the story did not end there. All of them were redeemed by God. As Romans 8:28 says, God works all things for the good of those who love Him. The game of life is not a single elimination tournament. You do not have to be perfect. You just have to be willing to repent and turn back to God.
If you have messed up recently, rejoice in knowing it is not the end of the road for you. This is an opportunity improve and come back bigger and better. God will be right there helping you along the way. Your comeback will be better than your setback.
