Push The Car
“Make vows to the Lord your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared.” - Psalm 76:11
As believers in God, we should pray and believe like it’s all up to God, but work, serve, and sacrifice like it is all up to us. Something happens in the heart of God when we offer a sacrifice to Him by faith.
Not long ago, I was in my hotel in Atlanta. While I was getting ready, I went to the window and noticed a man whose car had broken down on the side of the road. He got out of his car and tried to wave down some folks to help him with his dilemma.
He stayed there for a few minutes, waving at cars trying to see if anyone would help him, but no one stopped. After a while, he decided to just roll up his sleeves to try and push the car himself. He put the car in neutral, opened the driver’s door, put one hand on the steering wheel, and pushed.
An interesting thing happened once he started pushing; people started getting out of their cars to help him push. As long as he just stood waving, nothing happened. But once he showed that he was committed to the task himself, others were willing to partner with him and help him push to get where he was trying to go.
The same goes for your relationship with God. Perhaps you are waving God down, asking for help, but you haven’t started pushing yet. You believe God will help you with what’s in front of you; but maybe you He is waiting on you to demonstrate your commitment to do your part. God wants to partner with you to get you where you are trying to go. But first, you must push.
