OCD: Obsessive Comparison Disorder
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” – Galatians 1:10
If you truly want to set yourself free and claim the freedom Christ offers, you must resist the urge to compare yourselves to others. In Galatians, Paul speaks on the issue of circumcision. The Judaizers were a group of Jewish Christians who insisted that their Gentiles (or non-Jews) follow the Mosaic Law, and any converts to Christianity must first be circumcised. To them, circumcision was a sign that one was submitted to God.
Paul wanted converts to reject rituals and focus on their relationship with God. Otherwise, they would spend most of their time comparing themselves to what others deemed as valuable and what I like to call, OCD: Obsessive Comparison Disorder.
Are you a victim of OCD? Do you compare your material possessions, physical features, spiritual walk, and lifestyle to others? Do you feel more or less significant than others because of your particular status?
Save yourself the time and avoid the comparisons. God made us all unique, with our own perspectives and talents, all to glorify Him. You don’t need to be perfect to others or even yourself. You are perfect to God. Your energy would be better spent on communion with God and discerning what He wants for your life.
