Change Your Location
“Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:18-19
The first thing to do when a famine hits and the power goes out in your life is to change your location. When Abram found himself in a famine, he left Israel and went to Egypt for a while (Genesis 12:10). Abram found himself in a place that was not nurturing or nourishing him; and rather than staying in that environment, he changed his location.
A friend of mine (let’s call her Jen) once started growing plants in her backyard. As time went by, Jen started to notice some of the plants that were initially doing well suddenly started changing their color and becoming weak. Just as she was about to throw them out, her grandmother told her not to get rid of them, but to let her babysit the plants for a few weeks.
When Jen went over to her grandmother’s house two weeks later, she was shocked to discover that the plants looked healthy again. Their color had been restored and they were sitting straight up, looking as strong as they ever had. Completely shocked, Jen asked her grandmother how she was able to get the plants to grow in her house when she couldn’t get them to grow in her own backyard.
Her grandmother said, the plants weren’t sick; actually, they were in good shape. The problem was the pots they were planted in were too small. Apparently, the plant had outgrown the pots at Jen’s house, and they needed to be moved in a space large enough to handle their new growth. See, small pots destroy growing plants.
Maybe this is where you are right now. Perhaps you have outgrown your environment. Maybe you have big dreams, and you are surrounded by mediocre minds who doubt you because they doubt themselves and their capabilities. Maybe you are growing in your relationship with God, but you hang out with people who still want to do things you know are wrong or immature.
Do not let the people around you keep you from becoming all God has made you to be. Maybe it’s time for you to change your location.
