Producing Fruits Of The Spirit
“But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law…By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.” - Galatians 5:18, 22-23
One of the beautiful parts of following God is that you are lo longer subject to the law, but when you practice the fruits of the Spirit, you can take heart knowing there is no law against these qualities. So how do we begin to produce these fruits of Spirit? For most of us, these things do not come naturally, especially when our circumstances are not favorable.
How is it then that we can begin to instill all these traits when they do not come easy? Well, nine is a lot to focus on at once, but you can choose two or three to specifically begin practicing. This will give you the ability to be more intentional and focus in on opportunities to display a certain fruit. Perhaps you already know the ones you need to work on the most.
What you can do is begin by choosing two or three, or maybe even just one. Whatever you decide, begin praying to God asking Him to help you to be more patient, or to give you more self-control. Whatever it is, pray to Him for help, because we cannot practice these qualities on our own. We need His help.
This prayer does come with a disclaimer; when you pray for a particular fruit of the Spirit, expect God to put you in situations or circumstances that will test you and challenge you to exercise that fruit. This is how God build these fruits within us. He tests us when it isn’t easy. He doesn’t give you peace by making everything in life easy. He doesn’t give kindness by making everyone in your life nice to you all the time. He is going to challenge you. When the situation isn’t optimal or easy, will you still exercise what you asked Him to give you? This is how you can begin producing more and more fruit. And when you practice these, there is no law against such things.
