Authority From The Holy Spirit
In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:13)
Yesterday, we talked about the authenticity that comes as a result of the seal of the Holy Spirit. But that’s not all that the seal signifies. His seal also signifies our authority.
The seal of an ancient king carried great authority. When the king made a decree and sealed it, it was unalterable. When Haman convinced King Ahasuerus to make a decree that the Jews could be killed in Esther chapter 8, Queen Esther was distressed because she knew that the decree was unchangeable.
When God seals us with the Holy Spirit, He gives us authority to do things that we might not be able to do on our own. The Holy Spirit gives us the authority to be bold witnesses for the Lord, to preach and teach the Gospel, and serve Him in the world. We don’t do it on our own power. We do it because we are His ambassadors. The Holy Ghost inside of us gives us authority.
Are you living with that kind of authority in your everyday life? Are you being bold and courageous as you share your faith? Are you relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to guide you to make an impact for the kingdom? If not, I hope that you will begin praying today that the Lord will grant you that kind of courage and remind you of the authority you have in Him.
