Power Under The Hood
I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. (Ephesians 3:7)
The 2021 Bugatti Chiron is one of the most exclusive performance cars in the world. Made by French automaker Bugatti, the Chiron is in a class all by itself. There’s nothing else quite like it on the road. I recently had the chance to see one of these spectacular vehicles in person. And what stood out to me was not the car’s plush interior, or its sleek design, or its high price tag. What stood out to me was the car’s power.
I distinctly remember the announcer saying that the car has a 1500 horsepower engine with 1180 pounds of torque. It can go from zero to 60 in 2.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 261 mph. That’s some kind of power.
What I learned after seeing this car is that the reason it is worth so much, the reason it’s in a class all by itself is because of what’s underneath the hood. Let me say that again. The power is based upon what’s underneath the hood. Its ability to move so fast and to do what other cars can’t do is because it has been equipped with the best parts and the finest engineering to make it hands down one of the fastest and highest performing cars in the world. And it’s all because of the power it has underneath.
In his letter to the church at Ephesus, Paul wanted to inform the church that they too have power; power from on high, to do what they could not do on their own. It is a power you might say is based upon what’s underneath the hood. It is not based upon external appearances, or in fancy titles or in religious regalia. It is a power given to us by God through the Holy Spirit, and as a result of that power we are able to live a victorious Christian life.
If you’re a child of God, you have that same power available to you as well. Sure, it might be under the hood and not immediately visible to an onlooker. But that doesn’t diminish its value. The power of the Holy Spirit is a force to be reckoned with, and my hope is that you will use it as you learn more and more about how valuable it truly is.
