Actively Partnering With Jesus
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord.” (Ezekiel 22:30-31)
Today’s key passage in Ezekiel highlights the consequences of not having pivotal and crucial intercessors in the community of faith. The absence of intercessors led to destruction and judgment for disobedience. God’s appeal for someone to build the wall was an appeal for someone to partner in the protection of the people from the consequences of their destructive behavior. If someone had been willing to intercede, the destruction of Jerusalem could have been avoided. Since no one was available or willing to defend the breach and rebuild the wall, judgment fell.
God uses intercessors to be the moral voice amid a people that have gone astray and to be a voice of healing to those who have been wounded by the misdeeds of others. With that in mind, we should have the mentality of, “If you see something, do something.” What you do, or don’t do, could make all the difference for someone else.
Let’s never have a passive attitude of, “Well, if I don’t do it, God will find someone else who will.” Instead, let’s jump at the opportunity to obey God’s call when we hear it and partner with Him as He carries our His plan. We are, after all, His children and His followers. So let’s not stand idly by when we can instead choose to actively follow His lead.
