Trust That God Loves You
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. (Revelation 3:19-20)
Have you ever read something in the Bible and wondered, “That may have been true for them back then, but is it true for me now?” There’s no doubt it can be difficult to have faith in the trustworthiness of God’s Word when your circumstances say otherwise. When you’re dealing with loss, disappointment, or pain, it’s so tempting to give more validity to your feelings than to the truth of the Word of God.
But the Lord is aware of this, thankfully. He knows that sometimes we struggle to believe Him, which is why He addresses this struggle through John’s writing of the book of Revelation.
To the churches in Asia Minor who were wondering if Christ’s words would work in their lives, Jesus concludes the third chapter of Revelation saying, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends” (v. 20). In other words, Jesus is saying if they would just let Him into their lives, He could demonstrate that His words would work for them.
In verse 19, Jesus is making it clear that He wants to help them because He loves them. He says, “I correct and discipline everyone I love.” He’s basically saying that He is correcting them and redirecting them because He loves them and wants what’s best for them.
Your Heavenly Father loves you more than you could ever imagine. He wants to help you. And He wants you to believe that He will come through for you. So even if your feelings are feeding you a different narrative or if you’re wrestling with doubt, choose to trust. Choose to have faith. And choose to believe. God is worthy of your trust, and He will always keep His promises.
